A crack monitor, sometimes known as Tell Tail is used to confirm long term changes in the width of established cracks. This monitor is designed to measure rotation, transverse and longitudinal movement.
The crack monitors are a polycarbonate material and include a alignment pins, a crack width meter card and a manual/notebook.
To install they are most commonly bonded across open cracks in brick or concrete that may be "live", that is they are still opening or closing over time.
By recording the displacement from the original Zero position changes in the crack over time may be manually monitored.
